Ruby Joy Jameson Ruiz
Chef / Owner
Ruby started her career in the food industry at the age of 14, working for her aunt’s catering service in Aspen, Colorado. She eventually started her own catering company and worked in various high-end establishments as a bartender, bar manager, and food and beverage manager. Ruby obtained her Cicerone certification, kitchen manager’s certifications, and has extensive knowledge of wine and cigars. She also competed in high-level mixology competitions before the term “mixologist” became popular. Ruby’s passion for the industry led her to learn most of her skills on the job and through self-teaching, as well as apprenticeships with local chefs.
In 2012, Ruby moved to Mexico and started RubyJoy’s Saucy Company, making organic sauces and selling them at farmers’ markets, food festivals, and stores. In 2017, she officially opened RubyJoy’s Delivery Restaurant, Catering, and Event Services, turning her dreams into reality and continuing to expand her knowledge and grow her business into San Miguel’s premier gourmet catering service.
Derek Gerardo Ruiz
Bar Manager / Partner
Derek, who has dual US/Mexican citizenship and was raised in California, is an essential member of the team, managing the bar program for catering and events. He has worked his way up in the restaurant industry, starting as a dishwasher and eventually becoming a bar manager. Derek has extensive knowledge of wine, spirits, mixology, guest hospitality, and restaurant operations. In 1999, he moved to San Miguel de Allende to be closer to his father and connect with Mexican culture. Derek met Ruby in 2013, and their relationship eventually turned romantic. They married in 2024, becoming a powerhouse couple in the culinary scene of SMA.
Livia Alexis Alcaraz Pineda
Wedding and Event Planner
Livia, a seasoned event specialist, has been a resident of San Miguel de Allende since 2016. Armed with a degree in marketing and a diverse set of diplomas—including event organization, social media management, and floral design—Livia brings a wealth of expertise to our team.
Driven by curiosity and a proactive mindset, she has actively participated in various projects over the years. These experiences have honed her communication skills, strategic thinking, organizational abilities, leadership, and teamwork. As a result, she seamlessly manages all aspects of our events, ensuring flawless execution and impeccable service.
Livia’s passionate personality is an invaluable asset. She meticulously attends to every detail, transforming ordinary moments into extraordinary memories.
